Job Description:  Woodlands Academy is seeking a Varsity Softball Coach for the 2024-2025 academic year. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to effectively relate and communicate to diverse constituents a high level of knowledge about the fundamentals and strategies of softball to the student-athletes of Woodlands Academy.

 

Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart is one of 25 Sacred Heart schools in the United States and Canada. Sacred Heart education at Woodlands Academy is distinctive and emphasizes best practices for the education of girls and innovative practices for academic excellence. Established in 1858, the school forms global citizens and transforms young women through a dynamic of relationships that responds to the dignity of each member of the school community.

 

The Varsity Softball Coach will report to the Athletic Director and join a highly collaborative, innovative, and experienced athletic department.

 

Responsibilities include:

 

•     Provide leadership that promotes positive attitudes and good sportsmanship

•     Notifies all members of the team of all Woodland’s Academy Athletic Program policies, procedures, and training rules as they pertain to the team

•     Implements programmatic instruction of sequential fundamentals and proper conditioning for all levels of the program

•     Plan and communicate to Junior Varsity practice sessions and competition strategies that ensure the health and physical well-being of student participants

•     Coordinates in conjunction with the Athletic Director practice schedules, team tryouts, meetings and end-of-the-season awards

•     Maintains the proper supervision of student-athletes at practices, games, in locker rooms, and on school provided transportation

•     Conducts a mandatory preseason parent meeting

•     Coordinates the distribution, care, inventory, and collection of uniforms and equipment

•     Maintains individual and team records and statistics

•     In conjunction with the Athletic Director, plans and implements a seasonal awards recognition program through the athletic office

 

Requirements and Qualifications:

 

•     Previous Softball coaching experience

•     Meet IHSA criteria

•     Must be available from the first allowable date of play as designated by the IHSA for all practices, games, and regional/state finals

•     A willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the Woodlands Academy community

•     Completion of Virtus: Protecting God’s Children training

•     Successful completion of criminal and sexual offender registry background checks
