Job Description:  Head Girls' Basketball Coach

Job Summary:

The Head Girls' Basketball Coach at Chicago Military Academy Bronzeville is responsible for leading the girls' basketball program and fostering the athletic and personal growth of student-athletes. The coach will oversee all aspects of the program, including training, competition, and academic support, ensuring that the team embodies the core values of character, discipline, dedication, and focus. The position requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and the ability to motivate and mentor student-athletes.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Development:

Develop and implement a comprehensive basketball program that promotes student-athlete success on and off the court. Establish a competitive and positive team culture based on sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect.

Training & Skill Development:

Design and execute effective practice plans that enhance individual skills and team performance. Focus on teaching fundamental basketball skills, advanced game strategies, and conditioning techniques.

Game Management:

Lead the team during games, making tactical decisions and adjustments to ensure competitive performance. Prepare detailed scouting reports on opponents and create game plans highlighting team strengths.

Student-Athlete Support:

Monitor the academic performance and personal well-being of student-athletes, ensuring they maintain eligibility. Provide mentorship and guidance, emphasizing character development and leadership skills.

Recruitment & Team Building:

Identify and recruit talented student-athletes within the school. Build a cohesive team through tryouts and bonding activities, ensuring all players feel included and valued.

Collaboration with the Athletic Department:

Work closely with the Athletic Director, school administration, and other coaches to align the basketball program with the school's broader athletic goals. Attend athletic department meetings and contribute to the overall development of the sports program.

Compliance & Safety:

Ensure that all practices, games, and activities follow IHSA (Illinois High School Association) rules and school policies. Promote player safety and injury prevention through proper training techniques and equipment usage.

Community Engagement:

Foster positive relationships with parents, fans, and the school community. Encourage community support by organizing events such as team fundraisers, parent meetings, and team-building activities.

Budget Management:

Manage the program's budget, including equipment, travel, and uniforms. Collaborate with the Athletic Director on financial planning and fundraising efforts.

Qualifications:

Proven experience coaching basketball at the high school level or higher.

Strong understanding of the rules, strategies, and techniques of the game.

Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes.

Commitment to academic and athletic excellence.

CPR and First Aid certified (or willing to obtain certification).

Adherence to IHSA and CMAB policies regarding eligibility, safety, and conduct.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior coaching experience at a military academy or similar educational institution.

Experience working with diverse student populations.

Knowledge of strength and conditioning principles for basketball.

Work Hours:

Practices: After school hours, typically Monday through Thursday.

Games: Weekdays and some weekends.

Additional responsibilities as required for team meetings, tournaments, and special events.

Athletic Director
