John Martin has been a member of the Illinois Athletic Directors Association for the past 26 years, beginning in 1988.  Throughout those 26 years, John has served the IADA in number of capacities, including IADA State Conference Chair – twice, IADA State Conference Program chair, IADA State Conference Registration CO-Chair, and IADA/IHSA New AD’s Workshop Presenter.Previous to his years in athletic administration, John taught English and coached Football and Basketball at Hoffman Estates High School.  From 1988-1990, he was the Athletic Administrator for Hoffman Estates High School, from 1990 to 2010 he was the Athletic Administrator for Adlai E. Stevenson High School.  In 1996 and 2010, John was named the IADA Outstanding Athletic Director of the Year; and in 2009, he was inducted into the Lake County High School Athletic Hall of Fame.  He has served the IHSA in a number of capacities: Equity Advisory Committee, Athletic Administrators Advisory Committee, Cheerleading Advisory Committee, Water Polo Advisory Committee, and the Water Polo State Tournament Manager and Host.
Eric Twadell, Superintendent of Adlai E. Stevenson District 125, remembers John, and said “John was a strong voice in support of high expectation for all of our students and did not expect anything less for our student-athletes.  We were blessed to have an Athletic Director who saw themselves first and foremost as a teacher.” Briant Kelly, Athletic Director at Libertyville High School, said about John, “His advice and guidance was appreciated and has not been forgotten by me. When I think about Athletic Directors that others should aspire to be like…John Martin is one of them.”

John’s extensive knowledge of high school athletics and his dedication the IADA are a few of the many reasons that led John to this selection as a member of the Illinois Athletic Directors Association Hall of Fame.

The IADA Board would like to thank you for all that you do for the student athletes of your schools.  We all know the time and effort we put into our positions.  We come from small schools, large schools, middle and high schools; but no matter what, we all share in a common goal, and that is to provide the best educationally based athletic program for our students.
