Jimmy Daniels has been a member of the Illinois Athletic Directors Association for the past 23 years, beginning in 1994.  Throughout those 23 years, Jimmy has served the IADA in a number of capacities, including 4 years as an IADA Mentor and serving 6 years as Membership Chair on the Executive Board.

Previous to his years in athletic administration, Jimmy taught physical education and coached Cross Country, and Track and Field at Thornton High School. From 1994-2007, he was the Athletic Administrator for Rich Central High School, and from 2007-2009, Athletic Administrator for Rich East High School.  He served his school’s athletic conference in a number of leadership positions, and is currently, and has been for over 15 years, an IHSA track & field official.

In 2008 Jimmy was named “Honorary Tournament Manager” for a lifetime of contributions to Rich South’s Big Dipper Tournament and Southland Athletics as a Coach, Athletic Director, and Friend.” In 2009, the Rich Central High School “Olympian XC Invitational” was renamed the “Jimmy Daniels XC Invitational”.  In 2013, Jimmy was inducted into the Illinois Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame. He was also inducted into the Thornton Township High School Hall of Fame in 2014.

Since retirement in 2009, Jimmy has stayed active and involved in a number of areas such as serving as an Interim Athletic Director, Interim Technology Director, volunteer junior high track and field coach (under his daughter as head coach), serving as a volunteer Education Foundation Board Member, serving on different ministries within his Church, and continuing his service as a Lead Evaluator for AdvancED School System Accreditation.

Michael Laneve, fellow Rich East administrator, remembers Jimmy and said, “Jimmy brought many improvements to all three school’s athletic and activity programs.  He introduced technology in inventory control, scheduling, and budgeting. He served on a wide variety of committees at the state level, improving athletics for all schools across the state”.  

Jimmy’s extensive knowledge of high school athletics and his dedication to the IADA are a few of the many reasons that led Jimmy to this selection as a member of the Illinois Athletic Directors Association Hall of Fame.
